The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state has expelled Philip Shaibu, the former deputy governor, along with Dan Orbih, the party’s national vice-chairman (south-south), and Omorgie Ihama, a former member of the House of Representatives for the Oredo federal constituency, due to alleged anti-party activities.
Ogie Vasco, the PDP spokesperson in Edo state, announced that the State Working Committee (SWC) made this decision after extensive deliberations. The expulsion is effective immediately.
Philip Shaibu was impeached as the deputy governor by the Edo state House of Assembly in April. His impeachment was based on the findings of a seven-member investigative panel led by retired justice S. A. Omonuwa, which was established by Daniel Okungbowa, the chief judge of Edo. Shaibu faced accusations of misconduct, perjury, and the disclosure of government secrets.
Dan Orbih has contested his expulsion, arguing that it did not follow the party’s constitutional procedures. He stated, “When a group of persons sits down to make pronouncements that are unconstitutional, it only shows that they are ignorant of the party’s constitution.”
