Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, and other key figures from the South-South All Progressives Congress (APC) have reaffirmed their support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
This declaration was made during a one-day South-South APC zonal meeting held in Calabar.
According to a statement by the party’s zonal Vice Chairman, Hon. Chief Victor Giadom, the APC leaders expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership and his economic strategies aimed at revitalizing Nigeria and restoring confidence among the populace and investors.
The stakeholders pledged to strengthen the APC’s presence in the South-South region, beginning with the upcoming governorship election in Edo State scheduled for September. They emphasized the necessity for party unity and revitalization, recognizing the importance of a cohesive and dynamic APC in the region. To this end, they resolved to establish a reconciliation committee led by Senator Otu.
The APC leaders committed to bridging existing gaps, fostering collaboration, and pursuing the common goal of reinforcing the party’s regional influence. They reaffirmed their unwavering support for the current administration’s policies on good governance, economic reforms, national security, and infrastructure development.
Notably, they vowed to mobilize party resources to secure victories in more states, using the Edo election as a pivotal test case. They also commended President Tinubu for his dedication to the Coastal Road project and the commencement of its construction.
In the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the leaders stressed the importance of the APC regaining control in Edo State and expanding its regional membership to provide solid support for President Tinubu now and in the 2027 general election, when he seeks a second term.
They praised the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, highlighting that such infrastructure development would enhance socio-economic ties between Nigeria’s South-West and South-South regions.
