The Kano State Government has ordered the demolition of the palace of Aminu Ado-Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano.
Haruna Dederi, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, announced that the demolition is intended to facilitate renovations of the palace.
Dederi also revealed that the Commissioner of Police has been instructed to remove Bayero from his residence at the Nasarawa GRA mini palace.
During a press conference, Dederi stated that the government has “completed arrangements for the general reconstruction and renovation of the property, including the immediate demolition and rebuilding of the dilapidated wall fence.”
This decision comes just hours after the Federal High Court ruled on its substantive suit. The court upheld the Kano Emirate Council Repeal Law 2024 but invalidated all actions taken by Governor Abba Yusuf following the law’s passage.
