A woman believed to have been kidnapped on her way to the hospital to give birth has been found in Ilorin, Kwara State, after staging her own abduction out of fear.
Raheemat Lateef was reported kidnapped last week in Abeokuta, Ogun State. She was said to be due for delivery and on her way to the State General Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, when she was allegedly abducted.
Her husband, Ogunbunmi Lateef, reported the alleged kidnap to the police in Abeokuta.
However, on Monday, June 24, police disclosed that Raheemat had fled to Kwara State to avoid her husband’s anger after suffering a miscarriage.
Frustrated by repeated miscarriages, Raheemat had fabricated the kidnap story.
Police spokesman Omolola Odutola provided an update on the incident, stating that Raheemat was found in Kwara State with her father. The command’s Anti-kidnapping unit had been tracking her until she reappeared.
Odutola said, “Raheemat Lateef, whom the husband reported as abducted, was never kidnapped but planned her journey to Kwara State to escape her husband’s wrath due to repeated miscarriages. She orchestrated the story and traveled to Kwara State herself. The Anti-kidnapping team had been tracking her until she showed up.”
“She is under medical observation and safe.”
