The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, has ordered a clampdown on vehicles operating with single or no plate numbers across the nation’s capital. He has also directed the arrest and prosecution of violators.
In a statement on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, conveyed Igweh’s warnings to car dealers against parking in unauthorized areas and driving beyond the stipulated time of 6:00 PM.
The statement read, “The Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, has issued a directive to impound vehicles with single or no number plates and arrest and prosecute the drivers. Car dealers parking in unauthorized lots and driving beyond 6:00 PM will also face the full wrath of the law.”
Adeh highlighted the command’s concern over motorists and car dealers violating these regulations, linking such practices to “one chance” operators involved in armed robbery.
She emphasized, “The FCT Police Command is seriously concerned about motorists and car dealers driving with single or no number plates beyond the permitted hours of 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. This practice, often associated with armed robbery cases known as ‘one chance,’ has raised public concerns about police effectiveness in tackling the issue.”
Igweh reiterated the commitment to ensuring the safety and security of FCT residents, stressing that violators will not be spared.
