Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Sini revealed that he declined a N150m bribe allegedly offered by Lagos businessman Akintoye Akindele to maintain his peace of mind.
Akindele, who was arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja in August 2023, was remanded in Kuje correctional centre. The charge sheet stated that the bribe was intended to facilitate his escape abroad and ensure a favorable police report.
Sini, who led the Inspector General of Polices investigative team on the case, recounted the incident during a dinner organized in his honor. He expressed his gratitude to the organizers and emphasized the importance of integrity.
At the event, Sini was awarded a plot of land in Abuja. Reflecting on the bribe offer, he said, “I would like to have money that I can lay my head down and sleep at night. I dont want to have something that will make me think twice and be running from one hole to another. So, I decided to do the right thing so that I can have peace of mind and also stand to do what is right for myself, for my organization, the Nigeria Police, and for the country at large.”
He urged the youth not to compromise their integrity for anything. Presenting the land document to Sini, Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh commended Sini for bringing pride to the Nigerian Police Force.
