The Federal Government, under its Renewed Hope Agenda, is set to inaugurate the next phase of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, extending from Cross River to Akwa Ibom, in August.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during a stakeholders engagement meeting at Ibom Hall in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, on Saturday. The details were released in a statement by the ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Edet Ekpenyong, on Sunday.
Minister Umahi said, “We are here to introduce Sections Three and Four of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. We started with Section One, which began in Lagos and extended to the deep port in Lagos, covering 47.4 km. Section Two starts at Lekki Deep Sea Port and extends to the Dangote Refinery. The President has directed that Sections Three and Four begin at Cross River and end at Akwa Ibom.”
He added, “Section Three includes 27 km in Akwa Ibom and 38 km in Cross River, while Section Four is entirely in Akwa Ibom, covering 80 km. Combined, these sections total 107 km, maximizing the benefits of this coastal highway. Once the procurement process for Sections Three and Four is complete, work will commence simultaneously on multiple sub-sections.”
Umahi praised President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to infrastructural development, highlighting the positive feedback from Nigerians and the significant benefits of the coastal highway.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio also expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for starting Sections Three and Four in Cross River and Akwa Ibom. He urged Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, to support the Federal Government’s efforts.
