An Anglican priest, Rev. Isaac Umurie, was tragically killed by his 28-year-old son, Ufuoma Umurie, in Okpare town, Olomu Kingdom, located in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.
Rev. Umurie, who served at St. John’s Anglican Church in Okpare-Olomu, was preparing for retirement when his son attacked him while he was asleep.
After the attack, Ufuoma reportedly chased his mother with a weapon, but she managed to escape.
Sources revealed that this was not the first time Ufuoma had attempted to harm his father. “This is the second time Ufuoma has attacked his father. Previously, he beat him, and the Okpare-Olomu vigilante detained him, but the father pleaded that he should not be taken to the police station. We heard that he is not mentally stable,” a source said.
“In today’s incident, he used a weapon to attack his father, causing severe injuries.”
“The priest was brought closer to home as he was preparing for retirement before this tragic incident.”
The suspect is currently being held at the Otu-Jeremi Divisional Headquarters of the Delta State Police Command.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident and stated that the assailant would be investigated and prosecuted accordingly.
