The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has arrested a 24-year-old woman, Blessing Okonkwo, who confessed to selling her three-year-old sibling, Friday Okonkwo, for N410,000 in Adamawa State.
According to Sahara Reporters, Blessing attributed her actions to the severe economic hardship in the country. She allegedly deceived her mother by claiming she was taking her brother to enroll him in a school in Mubi, a city located 40 kilometers away. Instead, she sold him for N410,000 to a buyer named Efunaya Nabufe, 35, who then trafficked the child to Enugu in southeastern Nigeria.
Blessing admitted, “I used the proceeds from the crime to buy a grinding machine to start a business and also gave my boyfriend N200,000 to purchase items needed for our traditional wedding.”
