BENIN CITY – Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, inaugurated a 20-member transition committee on Thursday to oversee the smooth transfer of power and knowledge to the next administration.
The committee, chaired by former Commissioner for Finance Mr. Joseph Eboigbe, was introduced at the EXCO Chambers in Government House, Benin City, with some members participating virtually.
Governor Obaseki stated, “Today, July 11, 2024, marks exactly four months until I hand over the government to the next elected governor of Edo State. As part of global best practices, I am establishing a transition team responsible for documenting the achievements of this administration over the past eight years.
“The team will gather and organize all documents and materials related to policy decisions made by this administration across various areas of governance over the last eight years. These materials, which are largely digitized, will be stored in a structured data room. This digital and physical repository will include documents related to every activity, contract, EXCO decision, presentation, and policy paper, serving as institutional memory for future administrations.”
Obaseki continued, “The team will compile reports on each area of government we have intervened in, along with recommendations for the next administration. This document and resources will facilitate the smooth transfer of power and knowledge. The repository will provide valuable information for internal and external use, research, and policy development.
“The report will also offer a detailed account of our strategic vision, administrative structure, policy impact, completed programs, and uncompleted initiatives, allowing the incoming administration to pick up where we left off. This report should be completed before October 30, 2024, as it will be part of the transition materials handed over on November 11, 2024.”
In his response, committee chairman Joseph Eboigbe assured that the committee would diligently fulfill its responsibilities and deliver the report within the specified timeline.
