The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured a sweeping victory in the Adamawa local government elections held on Saturday, winning all 21 chairmanship positions.
Mohammed Umar, chairman of the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC), announced the election results on Sunday in Yola.
For the councillorship positions, PDP won 225 seats, while the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) managed to secure just one seat in the Demsa ward of the Demsa Local Government Area.
Umar stated, “In the chairmanship election, PDP won all 21 seats declared at the local government level. For the councillorship, PDP secured 225 seats, and NNPP won one seat in Demsa ward.”
He added that the commission would issue certificates of return to the elected officials on Monday.
A total of twelve political parties participated in the election.
