A Federal High Court judge in Abuja has confirmed Asue Ighodalo as the rightful governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State.
On Wednesday, Justice James Omotosho ruled in favor of Mr. Ighodalo in case CS/469/24, determining that he was properly nominated during the PDP primaries held on February 22, 2024, in Benin City. The judge dismissed the objections raised by Philip Shaibu, one of Mr. Ighodalo’s political rivals.
In the primaries, Mr. Ighodalo secured 577 votes, defeating Mr. Shaibu and ten other contenders. It remains uncertain whether Mr. Shaibu intends to appeal the court’s decision.
Mr. Ighodalo, a prominent business lawyer based in Lagos, has been widely recognized as the leading candidate in the upcoming gubernatorial election set for September 2024.
