In a shocking incident this afternoon, the motorcade of Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, was violently attacked. The attackers have been identified as members of the Edo State Security Network and alleged thugs reportedly sponsored by the Edo state government, allegedly led by Francis Inegbeniki.

The unprovoked assault resulted in severe injuries to three mobile policemen assigned to Senator Okpebholo’s security detail, with one officer tragically dying from bullet wounds. The senator himself is currently hospitalized in an undisclosed location in Benin, where he is receiving medical treatment. Other members of his entourage, who were also attacked, are being treated in various hospitals across Benin City.

Godswill Inegbe, Legislative Aide to Senator Monday Okpebholo (Media & Communication), confirmed the incident and expressed deep concern over the increasing violence in Edo State’s political arena.

The APC has called for an immediate investigation into the attack and urged authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice. This incident highlights the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect political candidates and ensure a peaceful election process in Edo State.
