The Enugu State Government issued a stern warning on Monday to those considering the enforcement of a sit-at-home order in the state, urging them to desist.
This announcement came after a State Security Council meeting, which included heads of various security agencies, at the Government House in Enugu. Chaired by the state governor, Peter Mbah, the council addressed the issue of sit-at-home orders, emphasizing the importance of maintaining law and order in the state.
Council members stressed the right of individuals to conduct their lawful activities without interference, following reports of a sit-at-home call by Simon Ekpa.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, the state Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, asserted that there would be no ungoverned spaces in Enugu State.
“We have just concluded a Security Council meeting with the governor and all the security chiefs. We made strategic and critical decisions to further strengthen the state’s security architecture. We guarantee the good people of Enugu State their safety,” Uzuegbu stated.
He continued, “We resolved that the sit-at-home order remains an aberration in Enugu State. People should go about their lawful businesses. Any actions by any person or group that disrupt the peace of the state will be dealt with ruthlessly. Anyone who disturbs the peace and business of others will face severe consequences.”
“The morale of all security forces is very high. There is a strong sense of confidence. Our officers are ready to eliminate any criminal threats to the peace of the state. We are positioning security forces strategically throughout Enugu State to respond swiftly and effectively to any threats,” he assured.
Commissioner Uzuegbu concluded, “His Excellency has motivated us, and we have built the confidence of our men. We have drawn up our operational plans to meet the security needs. We are not relenting in our efforts. People should continue with their lawful activities.”
