Denilson Igwe, a former collaborator of Mark Angel, has publicly accused his ex-boss of underpaying him and his co-star, Emmanuella, despite their skits generating significant revenue. According to Igwe, he was integral to the success of Mark Angel Comedy, yet received a mere N50,000, while Emmanuella was paid N20,000, even though their skits were reportedly earning over $160,000 monthly.
In an emotional revelation, Igwe shared his background and involvement in the early days of the comedy venture. “I am a comedian, actually. I was the one that started Mark Angel Comedy. I was an orphan. Mark was the elder brother of the house. He was working as a security guard in Kilimanjaro, GRA, Port Harcourt, while I was learning camera work from a man named Ifeanyi. I even stole the camera we used.”
Igwe recounted how the project started during their free time and how he was unaware of the financial aspects. “Mark suggested we create a Facebook page, and I agreed. I didn’t know when it got monetized. I just kept making the skits. Then, suddenly, in 2014, he bought a car. When I asked how he afforded it, he said someone gave it to him.”
Despite the substantial earnings, Igwe claims he received only N20,000 monthly initially, while Emmanuella received the same amount. “We were poor, living in a mud house. Emmanuella didn’t know the value of money either. In 2016, he gave me N50,000, saying it was a fraction of our monthly earnings, which were $160,000.”
Igwe concluded his statement with a bold declaration: “I’m the only one who can speak about him now. People say if you talk about him, you will die mysteriously, but he can’t kill me because I’m an orphan.”
