A chief magistrate’s court has ordered the remand of 44-year-old Yahuza Abubakar in a correctional facility for allegedly defiling a 5-year-old girl in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) brought Abubakar to court on charges of defilement.

NSCDC prosecutor Marcus Audu informed the court that the victim’s mother, Mary Abashe, reported the incident in Kafanchan on July 18.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Audu stated that Abubakar visited the complainant at the Ungwan Rimi area of Kaduna, dragged the little girl into the kitchen, and defiled her. The crime was witnessed by a neighbor, making the offense a violation of section 258 of the Kaduna penal code.

Presiding judge Samson Kwasu did not take Abubakar’s plea, citing lack of jurisdiction. Kwasu instructed the prosecutor to forward duplicate copies of the case file to the Kaduna State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

The judge adjourned the case to August 6 for further proceedings.
