The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has urged public officeholders to prioritize probity, transparency, and accountability in the management of public funds.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede made this call during a visit from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) delegation, led by its Managing Director and CEO, Samuel Ogbuku, in Abuja.

Mr. Olukoyede warned that those who disregard these principles would eventually face consequences, underscoring that only morally upright leaders should occupy positions of trust.

He highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability in governance, pointing out that while Nigerians are fundamentally good people, a flawed system has allowed corruption to flourish.

Mr. Olukoyede reaffirmed the EFCC’s unwavering commitment to combating corruption and supporting economic development through good governance. He also expressed the commission’s willingness to strengthen its partnership with the NDDC to help the agency fulfill its mission.

He announced that the EFCC would be invited to inaugurate projects funded by the recovered monies, demonstrating the positive outcomes of the EFCC’s initiatives.

Mr. Ogbuku also highlighted the NDDC’s “Rewind to Rebirth” policy, which aims to improve the commission’s reputation by focusing on transparency and learning from past mistakes. He called for enhanced collaboration between the NDDC and EFCC, particularly in providing technical support and financial management training for NDDC staff.
