A fatal road accident on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos has claimed the life of a dispatch rider, leaving two others injured.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the general manager of LASTMA, provided details of the accident, which occurred near Chevron, heading towards Ikota along the expressway.

According to the statement, which was signed by Taofiq Adebayo, the director of public affairs and enlightenment at LASTMA, the accident involved a high-capacity ‘T&M’ bus with registration number AKD 952 XZ. The bus reportedly lost control due to brake failure while speeding, crashing into an oncoming KIA RIO vehicle with registration number BDG 853 DA.

The collision caused the KIA RIO to veer off and strike a dispatch motorcycle, registered as KTU 695 QK, traveling in the opposite direction. Unfortunately, the dispatch rider was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other individuals sustained severe fractures and were rushed to a nearby hospital by a good samaritan who witnessed the accident.

LASTMA personnel, alongside officers from the Ajiwe and Ilasan police stations, provided security during the rescue operations conducted by emergency responders.

Expressing his condolences, Mr. Bakare-Oki sympathized with the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He also urged motorists, especially drivers of high-capacity buses, to ensure their vehicles are in proper working condition—particularly the brake system—before embarking on any journey within or outside the state.
