Lagos, Nigeria – August 29, 2024: Adeolu Adeboye, son of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, is at the center of a growing controversy after allegedly abandoning an N17.26 billion road project in Kaduna State.
According to reports, Adeolu secured the contract through his company, Ronchess Global Resources Plc, under the administration of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The project, an 8-kilometer road in Zaria, was initially contracted for N8.74 billion but was later revised to N17.26 billion. Despite receiving N8.19 billion for the work, the project was only 30% completed before Adeolu allegedly abandoned it.
The contract, awarded on September 15, 2020, had an 18-month completion window, with the expected delivery date set for January 2, 2021. However, the project has remained incomplete, sparking outrage and prompting a probe by the Kaduna State Government and House of Assembly.
Following the investigation, Adeolu Adeboye sought legal protection by filing a suit (FHC/L/CS/1206/24) at the Federal High Court in Lagos. He is seeking an injunction to prevent the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Kaduna State Government, and the Kaduna State House of Assembly from arresting or detaining him in connection with the unfinished project.
Justice K.O. Ogundare of the Federal High Court in Lagos granted an interim order restraining the EFCC, the Inspector General of Police, and other respondents from compelling Adeolu to appear for questioning or detaining him until the final determination of the suit.
The Kaduna State House of Assembly’s investigative team recently inspected the project site on May 16, 2024, at Wusasa to Danmagaji Nagoyi Road in Kaduna North Local Government Area. They confirmed that the site was abandoned, further fueling the ongoing investigation.
As the legal battle unfolds, the alleged abandonment of the N17.26 billion project has raised serious concerns about accountability and the proper use of public funds in Kaduna State.
