Nigerian music sensation Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has been honored with a prestigious bronze artefact from the revered Benin Monarchy. The special gift was presented to Rema today by Princess Oghogho Ewuare, on behalf of His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II.
This remarkable gesture from the Benin Monarchy is a significant honor for any Edo native. Rema, who proudly references his heritage in his music—particularly in his song Benin Boys—expressed his deep gratitude for the recognition.
Receiving this artefact, a symbol of the rich cultural heritage of the Benin Kingdom, Rema acknowledged it as his “medal” from the esteemed Oba of Benin. The ceremony concluded with the traditional chant, “Oba ghato kpere, Iseeeeee,” reaffirming the strong bond between the artist and his royal roots.
