Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has cautioned civil servants that they will be the first to face negative repercussions if the All Progressives Congress (APC) or any other opposition party wins the upcoming governorship election. Speaking during a thank-you meeting with public servants in Benin City, Obaseki stressed that the stakes are high for state workers.
“Any mistake you make will affect you first before others. You will be the first victim,” Obaseki told the civil servants, warning them of the potential risks involved in electing leaders without experience or a clear vision for the state’s development.
The governor emphasized the progress his administration has made in advancing technology-driven operations within the state’s civil service, urging voters to ensure the right leadership is maintained to preserve these gains. He argued that the state could not afford to make “disastrous” choices in leadership, saying, “The risk is about allowing people without ideas of what to do to lead. People who can’t even articulate their ideas, people who can’t read a balance sheet.”
Obaseki expressed his support for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, describing him as a competent leader who would continue the work he had started.
On his part, Mr. Ighodalo commended Governor Obaseki’s achievements, particularly in transforming the state’s civil service. He pledged to build on these successes, stating, “Edo State public and civil service is number one in Nigeria. Obaseki has done well, and I will continue from where Obaseki would stop.”
Ighodalo urged citizens to come out in large numbers to cast and defend their votes, while the State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa, praised the governor for his reforms, offering prayers for his continued success.
