The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has raised concerns over what it describes as a pattern of excessive and wasteful spending by the Sokoto State government, following the announcement of a N30 billion street fencing project. The party called for an immediate investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe the rationale behind the project’s hefty budget.
According to the PDP, the people of Sokoto have not yet recovered from the state government’s previous expenditures, which included N1.2 billion spent on repairing just 25 boreholes and another N1.2 billion allocated for renovating five roundabouts. The party views the latest street fencing initiative as another example of financial mismanagement that requires urgent scrutiny.
The PDP urged the EFCC to step in, ensuring that public funds are being used judiciously, and called on the state government to provide a clear justification for the significant expenditure.
