The Kogi State House of Assembly has urged President Bola Tinubu to immediately remove the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, citing an alleged assassination attempt on the life of former Governor Yahaya Bello.

During a plenary session held on Monday in Lokoja, the state capital, the lawmakers expressed their dissatisfaction with what they described as the EFCC’s unprofessional handling of cases involving the former governor. The legislators condemned the EFCC’s recent actions, particularly an alleged unprovoked attack on the Kogi State Government Lodge, which they said targeted both former Governor Yahaya Bello and the incumbent, Governor Ahmed Ododo.

Akus Lawal, the lawmaker representing Ankpa 1 constituency, moved a motion of urgent public importance, accusing the EFCC of attempting to persecute and potentially harm both governors. Lawmakers, including Jacob Olawunmi of Ijumu State Constituency, supported the motion, calling for the EFCC to stop its alleged harassment of the state’s leaders.

Abu Jibril of Ajaokuta State Constituency further escalated the matter by accusing EFCC Chairman Olukoyede of involvement in an assassination plot and demanded that he be prosecuted for his actions.

The Kogi Assembly is now pressing for swift intervention from the federal government to address the situation.
