The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed fresh charges against former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, accusing him of involvement in a N110.4 billion fraud. The new charges were submitted to a federal high court in Abuja on Wednesday.

The charges allege a criminal breach of trust amounting to N110,446,470,089, a violation of sections 96 and 311 of the Penal Code Law Cap. 89 of Northern Nigeria, 1963. This offense is punishable under Section 312 of the same law.

Bello, who was previously the sole defendant in a 19-count indictment brought by the EFCC, is now facing a new 16-count indictment. Two officials from the Kogi State government, Abdulsalami Hudu and Umar Oricha, have also been named as co-defendants in this fresh case. The charges reflect the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to hold public officials accountable for alleged financial misconduct.
