The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has pledged N20 million to support the families of police officers who tragically lost their lives while returning from duty in Edo State. The officers had been deployed to the state during the 21 September gubernatorial election, which has sparked widespread controversy.

The donation, intended to provide relief to the bereaved families, has drawn sharp criticism from various quarters. Many view it as an attempt to shift focus from the allegations of electoral malpractice surrounding the APC’s victory in Edo. The election has been marred by accusations of rigging, with some claiming that the result was manipulated to subvert the will of the Edo people.

Political commentators suggest that Ganduje’s gesture is a strategic move to mitigate the backlash. “This is more about optics than compassion,” remarked a local politician. “It seems like a calculated attempt to regain public favor while showing loyalty to the party leadership amidst the growing tension over the disputed election.”

The controversy surrounding the election continues to cast a shadow over the APC’s victory, with critics calling for a thorough investigation into the alleged irregularities.
