As the Edo State administration prepares to conclude on November 11, 2024, Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu has issued a firm warning to Permanent Secretaries and the heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) regarding the protection of government properties. Shaibu stressed that these officials will be held accountable by the incoming administration for any missing assets under their supervision.

In his statement, the Deputy Governor made it clear that safeguarding government assets is the responsibility of Permanent Secretaries and Directors, particularly as political appointees, such as the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, Commissioners, Special Advisers, and Senior Special Assistants, will also be vacating their positions on the same date.

“Failure to act in preventing the removal of fixed items and government properties will result in severe consequences, with the heads of MDAs being held accountable for any lapses in their inventories,” Shaibu warned.

He further emphasized that the unlawful removal of government assets constitutes a crime and will not be tolerated. Shaibu called on all political appointees to desist from such actions or risk facing legal repercussions.

The Deputy Governor’s warning comes as part of the administration’s final efforts to ensure a smooth transition of power and the preservation of government resources.
