Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has vowed to resolve the issue of withheld certificates for Kano graduates in Cyprus due to unpaid tuition fees by the previous administration.

In a statement released on Monday, Governor Yusuf disclosed his visit to Cyprus to address the plight of affected students. He held a critical meeting with the management of Near East University to negotiate the release of certificates for graduates from 2015 to 2019.

Many of these students, especially those in medicine and nursing, have been unable to advance their careers due to the non-payment of tuition fees. The governor described the situation as a major setback for the students and the state, citing the urgent need for skilled professionals in key sectors like healthcare.

Following what he called “fruitful discussions” with the university, Governor Yusuf expressed optimism about resolving the financial liabilities and securing the release of the certificates.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing systemic challenges in Kano’s education sector. “This intervention ensures that our graduates can reach their full potential and contribute significantly to the development of Kano State,” Yusuf stated.

The move has been widely praised as a step toward restoring hope for the affected students and strengthening the state’s human capital.
