Suspected terrorists attacked the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) facilities in Kangiwa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing four individuals, including a local watchman and three contractors. The attack occurred on Friday, January 10, 2025, at the Kangiwa border post, according to a statement released by NIS Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo.

Udo confirmed that no NIS officers were harmed during the assault but noted that significant damage was done to security facilities at the site.

Expressing condolences to the families of the victims, Udo assured the public that the NIS, in collaboration with other security agencies, is working diligently to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

“The service regrets to announce a recent attack by a suspected terrorist group on our facilities and contractors on-site at the Kangiwa border in Kangiwa Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The attack, which occurred at approximately 7:20 PM, led to the death of four individuals, including a local watchman and three contractors. Despite these losses, no immigration officers were killed,” Udo stated.

He emphasized that the NIS remains steadfast in its mission to secure Nigeria’s borders and enhance national security.

“Our heartfelt condolences go to the families of the deceased. The service remains resolute and undeterred in its core mandate of border security, working in alignment with the broader goal of safeguarding the nation,” Udo added.

The attack highlights ongoing security challenges in the region as authorities intensify efforts to curb the activities of criminal groups along Nigeria’s borders.
