The Lagos State Police on Monday arraigned a 41-year-old man, Patrick Onyegbule, before the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court over allegations of inappropriate conduct involving his young child.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, faced charges related to unlawful conduct and improper treatment. He pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

Prosecutor Inspector Ayodele Adeosun informed the court that the alleged incident occurred between August and November 2024 at Shapview Plaza, Alaba International Market, Ojo, Lagos.

According to the prosecutor, the allegations arose following a family dispute that led the defendant’s wife to leave their home, leaving their child in his care. During a visit, the wife allegedly discovered concerning circumstances involving her child.

The prosecutor stated that the charges brought against the defendant were in line with Sections 137 and 261 of the Lagos State Criminal Code, 2015.

Chief Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties of equal value. The court stipulated that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction and hold gainful employment.

The case was adjourned until March 5, 2025, for trial.
